PPA is not the finish line. The real value lies in time.

This week, we finally confirmed the main commercial terms of a solar PPA we had been discussing for some time.
In theory, I should have been able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Instead, I started paying even more attention to what comes next.
Because signing a PPA solves only one thing:
“We have green power.”
Once actual operations begin, the questions immediately become:
When is this green power generated?
When do customers actually need it?
How do we handle the timing mismatch in between?
What do we do with surplus electricity?
How do we make up a shortfall?
And ultimately, how do we settle it and prove it was actually used?
These questions are actually harder than negotiating the price.
That is why I have kept telling the team lately:
In the future, companies buying green power cannot look only at annual totals.
The real value lies in time.
If a company needs 10 million kWh a year and buys 10 million kWh of green power, that does not mean they truly match at every point in time.
There is plenty of solar power during the day, but the load may not occur then.
At night, electricity is needed, but solar power is no longer available.
This is when 15-minute data, storage, AI-EMS and VPP really begin to matter.
A very interesting signal also emerged in the Taiwan market this week.
New corporate CPPA partnerships have begun extending green power supply toward “time shifting” and capacity markets.
In other words, the market is gradually moving from:
“How much green power did I buy this year?”
toward:
“When did I use that green power?”
I believe this is the next stage.
For KiWi, what we want to do now is not simply sign a few more PPAs.
It is to connect PPA, 15-minute electricity consumption, storage, AI-EMS and the electricity market into one operating system.
First, understand the enterprise’s actual load.
Then match it precisely.
Where there is a timing mismatch, use storage to shift it.
Where there is dispatchable flexibility, move toward VPP, DR or other market services.
Finally, bring every decision back to actual data and settlement results for verification.
Because a PPA in itself is not energy management.
It is only a beginning.
The real value is enabling every kWh to be used at the right time by someone who truly needs it.
PPA is not the finish line.
Time is the next layer of value.
Making every kWh smarter.
