Counterattack from the trough, cross-boundary innovation: KiWi Energy's smart energy platform
CEO Huang Wei-zhe shares how a kiwi fruit inspired the company name — and how KiWi is building a closed-loop platform spanning generation, retail, storage, and AI energy management.

KiWi Energy is one of the few companies in Taiwan that obtained an electricity retailing license early on and focuses on operating in the consumer market. Its business scope covers green energy supply, smart energy management, and energy storage system integration. The birth of the company name "KiWi" holds a story full of coincidence and a flash of inspiration.
CEO Huang Wei-zhe recalled: "This is my fourth time starting a business. Once, while taking a walk after a meal and eating a kiwi fruit, the inspiration suddenly came to me. The kiwi fruit is not only brightly colored and delicious, but the public also generally has a special fondness for the color green. Moreover, I am engaged in the green energy industry, so everything coincided perfectly, and I decided to use the name 'KiWi'."
Such an intuitive and meaningful name also implies Huang Wei-zhe's philosophy of resource recycling and sustainable development: while promoting green energy, KiWi Energy hopes to build a closed loop from power generation and usage to energy storage and recycling through smart systems, achieving a true circular economy.
Falling into the trough and rising again
In 2011, Huang Wei-zhe decided to start an independent business, hoping to accumulate more capital and invest in the research and development of advanced technologies, focusing on energy management systems and innovative solar inverters. After years of hard work, they successfully developed the first micro-inverter and smart energy management system in the Asia-Pacific region, and marketed the products to over thirty countries under their own brand. With cumulative sales exceeding 100,000 units, the market response was quite favorable.
Today, standing at the threshold of a new era, Huang Wei-zhe and his team are not only focusing on electricity retailing services but are also committed to building a comprehensive platform covering power generation, electricity retailing, energy storage, and smart energy management. He expressed confidently: "In the future, the price competitiveness of the green energy market will only grow stronger."
Huang Wei-zhe stated that what KiWi Energy provides is not just green electricity trading, but a complete set of energy management services, including green energy supply, energy storage systems, and AI smart energy management systems, thereby helping FamilyMart uniformly manage the real-time electricity usage of its 5,000 stores. Such a system architecture not only allows for more precise energy usage but also implements the concept of resource recycling at every node.
